Parents should call the rectory as soon as possble to arrange the Baptism of their infant. Children over the age of 7 who have not yet been baptized will be prepared in our CCD program and baptized at the Easter Vigil Mass.
There is a required preparation class for parents and godparents which must be completed before the date of the Baptism. Call today to make arrangements.
The Church has guidelines which must be followed when choosing the godparents for children to be baptized. Godparents must be at least 16 years old (at the discretion of the bishop), be in good standing as a practicing Catholic, and have been confirmed and have received Holy Communion. Only one godparent is necessary but if two are chosen one must be male and one must be female. When there is only one godparent, the Church allows, but does not encourage, a second wtiness called a "Christian witness." A Christian witness is a baptized non-Catholic Christian who takes part in the ceremony, but cannot truly be a godparent because he (she) is not in complete union with the beliefs of the Catholic faith. A godparent should be someone who will help a child to become a strong Catholic by his or her example.
